HR Onboarding Automation Rescue (Jira Service Management)


An Atlassian partner created an HR onboarding automation that ran on Jira Service Management. The workflow was supposed to send notifications to managers once the employee was officially hired, but the notifications were not received. Executives were embarrassed by managers missing communications and new hires were starting without equipment. The mismanaged workflow was causing chaos, costing money and damaging reputation.

I audited the workflow end-to-end and found the root cause: the automation depended on a hidden request type, which prevented the expected notification triggers. After targeted investigation and controlled testing, I repaired the configuration and optimized the automation so notifications fired reliably and onboarding steps aligned with the real hiring status.

Result: Managers received timely notifications again, onboarding stabilized, and leadership regained confidence in the process.
